Since most of us do not read Mandarin, I thought it would be useful to republish the piece here.Earthquakes occupy a special foreboding place in the family of disasters that afflict man. They are cataclysmic, they make no differentiation between rich and poor, political elite or worker, old or young. They also demonstrate that, despite the way our different countries have developed, the cultures and the histories of nations, people, when caught in such crises, behave in utterly similar ways. The grief on the face of a mother in Sichuan province today, is no different from that of the mother in Bam, Iran in 2003, or Izmit, Turkey in 1999, Kobe, Japan in 1995, San Francisco in 1989 or Spitak in Armenia in 1988. In all these earthquakes we saw the heroism on local people digging through the night to help rescue trapped loved ones, and the dedication to duty of local officials who, despite loosing their own families, stayed in place to direct relief efforts. When all said and done, we have more that unites us than separates us.

1. Icons

Let's quickly explain what the icons stand for:

All News:
When the "All News" icon is active then the entire news content including videos, photos, quotes etc. is displayed in the content section.

Articles:
If you select the "Articles" icon then only articles are shown in the middle content sections.

Videos:
As the icon's name suggests, only "Videos" are listed if you click this icon.

Photos:
Yes, the "Photos" icon only gives you the photos which have been uploaded to site.

Quotes:
When clicking on the "Quotes" icon all the quotes ever submitted to our site are displayed in the content section.

Downloads:
Here you'll find helpful und interesting eBooks for download.

Submit News:
This icon is a new speedy way to submit catchy articles, photos, videos etc. to our site. Click on the icon and the "submit news" page, just as you know it, will open.

2. The content section:

The content section (left part of the screen) kind of stayed the same. You can still choose if you want to view the "latest", "popular", "random" or your "favourite" articles, videos, quotes, photos etc. by selecting the corresponding tab at the top of the frame. The functionality of the links remained the same too.

3. The sidebar

The Life Area Box (at top of sidebar) We've given the individual Life Areas new icons to improve their looks

AND

if you click on a Life Area not only the drop down menu with the associated life areas opens, but right below the Life Area box you’ll now find a new feature displaying selected users who are particularly interested in your selected life area! So quickly make friends with them!

AND

we've even pushed it further and added another feature right below to suggest Life Dreams relating to the Life Area you've chosen. We believe this will inspire you to create your own life dreams or to join the life dreams displayed in the box.

And right below you can still find our "Related Books" section.
